How To Choose A Wedding Hairstyle To Complement Your Wedding Dress

Hi everyone and welcome! We’ve got gowns by Mascia; Mascia’s just there as well. So, Bridal Fusion by Mascia. And we’re just gonna have a look at how the different necklines might change what you choose. Because my wonderful friend here, Crystal, from La Pictura by Crystal Terreu, is gonna to explain a little bit about why you do what you do. Why we choose certain hairstyles and what those advantages are. Hi guysTay has this beautiful gown on and she has, it’s got a little bit of netting
through here allowing it to sit off the shoulders. I would actually, so it’s not
too exposed and it show you off your neckline a little bit more, just take
your hair back softly in a nice, low, soft bun because as you can see the dress has
a little bit of embellishment on it so the last thing when you’re wearing your
hair down is sometimes it might get a little bit caught through there and tend
to just get in the way of your photos and things like that. So yeah, I’d be more
inclined to go with a nice, soft, low bun through the back just so it shows off
your shoulders and keeps it nice and clear. With the earrings as well, because it is quite bare through the décolletage having those big earrings is beautiful,
so but the hair is getting caught and tangled, yeah? How many times have you
done this today? Yeah, and it’s the last thing I want to do on my wedding day. Yeah exactly. You want to be comfortable you don’t want to be fussing. So, oh
beautiful. I’ll get you, yeah a nice low bun takes that away. So if I can hold this
for you, Crystal. Sure. So Crystal perhaps you can show just a little bit of how you would style Tay’s hair for this particular gown. So it’s the illusion neckline and
it’s got quite a bit of like intricate beading there around the very very top there and a little bit of scalloping as well. Which is I would imagine, Mascia correct me, a really big feature of the gown. So you want to highlight that, rather than hide it. So I’d sort of just, sorry, twist it around and have like a beautiful, simple,
low knot button. Just keeping it off, keeping it out the way, keeping it off
of the earrings, allowing this beautiful decolletage to show you and become
really elegant. Just with these earrings you can see any little hairs might be
getting caught, it might be frustrating. So they’re the little things that you might
not think that on your wedding day that yeah you don’t take into consideration.
So you can see once you leave the hair down how different it is. It sort of hides it, it’s gonna get caught through here, it’s going to get caught through here and
although you might feel really comfortable it might be something that’s
a bit of a game changer that might actually yeah change your mind in
wearing it up. This is beautiful Serena. I actually did her hair on her wedding day
and she had a day like today. It was a beautiful beach wedding and yes Serena
has that hair that has the tendency, she’s a bit of a curl to it. So back to
that humidity she’s, yeah, it’ll be looking for moisture and looking to
frizz. We blow-dried it, we prepped some anti-humidity products through today. We
also prepped it really really well. So this hairstyle would generally last you
all day and all night. But on a day like today, it’s just, yeah it’s not very practical. Because you can see it’s started to fall
already. Having that beautiful soft wave through can help. What I also recommend
as well if you are so keen on wearing your hair down and it’s just a comfort
thing to you or whatever, it might be, having some hair extensions through is
actually a really really good idea. Bcause their hair extensions will hold
curl a lot better than your natural hair. Because you’re not contending with the
curl in her natural hair. So that will hold for days and days and although your
hair may have got wet and your fringe may have got a little bit, you know, we
had this up in a beautiful Hollywood wave it may have gotten a little bit wet
but your hair extensions held themselves, didn’t they, really quite well. So that
curl was still there. Because we love these beautiful hair clips through the
side, that I’m seeing trending everywhere, and we thought we’d just tie
it all together having a low back through the V and the v-neck through the
front. Yeah so it’s quite a low back, so some brides will want to take the hair
up and accentuate the back. Other brides might have a tattoo, or have scarring, or
have something that they might want to even just cover up a little bit. So
yeah, where this dress lends itself to lots of different styles. Personally,
having the V at the front and the back what I would have done, if we have a
little bit more time, is I’d probably go for a middle part and then like a beautiful
high pony because I feel like the middle part kind of ties in with the
decolletage at the front going into the V and the classic V the back. So
having the middle part with a little bit of height and into a pony will give you
the best of both worlds feeling like you have it soft around the front, but then a
little bit covered through the back as well. And if Serena was on the beach, in the rain this afternoon – I’m sorry – then that symmetrical, centre part, high pony situation would be much kinder. Much kinder. Much, much kinder. So the difference is you’ve got your hair down it’s not having anything to anchor with. So if you
have your hair up, you’ve got a hair tie for a start, that’s holding it. You’ve got some soft pieces through the front, so it’s not gonna get as unruly tied up. Today is a really good day because you just can’t you know you can’t pick the
day you get and you might have something in mind that you really hell-bent on but
don’t feel afraid as well on your trial it’s with your hair to change it up a
little bit as well and ask for some advice. Because if your hairstylist is a
reputable, really good at what they do, they do it every weekend, they’ll have
ideas for you. Crystal just to wrap it up we’ve got this beautiful halterneck just behind us here. So this is an original design from your daughter, Mascia, is that true? And how old is your daughter? 14 – do you mind. Okay. So, obviously not all brides have black gowns, but rock and roll brides do, and it’s more about the neckline
that we want to talk about isn’t it, Crystal? So if we had a lovely
bride with a higher neckline, a bit of almost a halterneck there, what would you be recommending to that bride? Definitely. The detail’s in the front, so I mean, I know to a lot of people it might seem very sorry that tree! a lot of people it might seem quite obvious, but then a lot of people really don’t know. With a high neck you tend to just go up and let that high neck be revealed on
its own. As too much hair around the front will just hide it and complicate it
and sort of look a bit messy. So just getting it up and out of the way will
show off the dress, just really beautiful. And any buttons, I can see there’s a couple of buttons through the back as well, the hair might get caught in the buttons as
well. I think the pinup style would look amazing with this dress. I’ve done a few
pinup styles as well. Yeah, it’s kinda like a really big curl that comes across. You can do like two going the same way, some waves. Like it’s
really, really beautiful. Just like you said before, for the alternate, edgy
bride, I’d probably chat more about doing that hair with that sort of style.
So that ties into that pinup feel, it lends itself to that really well. So just
to wrap up, Crystal, I want you to tell the lovely brides here your top tips for
yeah for complementing hairstyle and gown. And obviously the first thing is to pick you, and you’ll just talk to them about it, it’s easy. But for others. Okay so some top tips I get asked a lot is if you’re wearing your hair down, can you still wear a veil? How does
that anchor in, how does it not slip out? So I have a real sneaky trick. Serena, if you could come here. I’m super short as well. So what I do, Camille, is I section that up through here then I, under this crown there’s a
bit of teasing there from today, then what I do is I take a small, fine scalp
braid and I braid it across this way and then I let the hair back down over and
then I’ve got an anchor to anchor my veil into. So what happened to me on my
wedding day is I got hugs and I wore my hair down and of course people come in
for a big bear hug and pulled my veil out. So I thought, what can I do so, yeah
veils aren’t slipping out when you want to wear your hair down. So that’s a
really handy tip. Yeah and one last one? When you’re coming to your trials, having a little bit of a guide of where you’re going with things is sort of nice, if you get a bit stuck. I
feel like some Brides tend to get their dress and work everything around there.
So that’s a bit of advice, if you have your dress you can tie everything else
in. Yeah, based on your dress, your location, your venue. And don’t be scared to put a mood board together and don’t sort of get sidetracked with Pinterest and
Instagram and new things that you see. Stick to what you really like and go
with that. Thanks very much, everyone.
