48 Hours on Isla Mujeres – MEXICO TRAVEL GUIDE 2019 | BETTER Than CANCUN?!?


Hey there world travelers. Hey there.
I’m Tanya, and I’m Dave, and we are Turn It Up World. Welcome to the beautiful
island of Isla Mujeres! So the island of Isla Mujeres is, it’s such
a beautiful island. It actually stands for, Island of Women. Hey, yeah nothing wrong with that. But it’s, what’s interesting about the island is, it’s only about four miles
long, which is about a seven kilometer span, and it’s only width is about two
thousand feet wide, so it’s not a huge island, nonetheless
it is so beautiful. It really is beautiful and, if you’re coming to the
Cancun area, it’s a real difference you know, you kind of come to Cancun it’s
crazy. You take the ferry over here and
suddenly you’re in this very very much quieter place, and especially at night. Yes, that’s very true. Yes, because we were actually here, we got in last night so we were able to see just how quiet this
island can get. Probably the most popular day trip from Cancun, so during the day it
gets busier than at night when folks from Cancun go back to their
all-inclusives back in Cancun. And interestingly enough, it’s only about a 13 kilometer
ride, so it’s about 30 minutes, you know, from Cancun by ferry over
to this Isla Mujeres, which is wonderful. So today, let’s just jump right into this,
we are going to try some amazing dishes so we got again some local, we love to kind of experience what like the locals experience, so we got some really good
places to try out that were referred to us by the locals.
The first one is supposed to have one of the best breakfasts and it’s called
Mangos. Yeah, Mangos. And, it’s really neat. And, it has, according to them, the world famous Coconut French Toast. Right that, and it also a great Eggs Benedict. Yes and it’s Cuban-inspired Mexican and so you
have this Hollandaise sauce with Curry in it. So, I’m excited to try that.
Oh my gosh, so am I. And, of course, we’re gonna explore some of the amazing things
throughout the day. We’re gonna kind of go with the flow. We have a really nice
lunch that’s gonna be prepared for us and then we’re just gonna figure it out
from there in terms of dinner. We’ll ask around for some more advice, but I think
enough talking. We need to get this day started. Don’t you think so? Absolutely,
Let’s rock and roll. just on this drive here heading to
mangos I think wasn’t she we got lost little loss but it’s a pretty kind of
loss and they mean it up on this other Avenue and the views here are just
incredible it is so laid-back it has such a great kind of vibe about
this that was really cool oh my gosh that was
like the scariest thing I’ve ever done in the golf cart you’re at mangoes halfway here remember
you try someone they’re supposedly famous I spent a day we were gonna get
the French toast which is the coconut french toast but unfortunately the
portion sizes are just so ginormous that we decide to split actually but it’s
actually for us it’s a perfect size we have a great lunch coming up as well and
dinner and so if we didn’t want a huge wreck for this and this is perfect
really good right now unfortunately Liam lost power so don’t have a I’m going if
you start chemically glistening running down my face and cheek kind of hot as
hell all right so I’m free to type in to try
this are you yeah let’s do it so let’s let’s see what we do this
together why don’t we go for LeAnn I try the potato first of the egg gonna cut
right into this sweet guys get our honest cakes together and I might
actually have one with a piece of that potato
I know I spinach in there I’m not sure about many oh wow really nice Wow
back in I’m really nice like really good mmm
it has a nice fusion of flavors we definitely taste like that bacon crisp
enough mmm rides along the top of it that onion the cheese I love the cheesy
hollandaise sauce it’s nice it’s really good
I could almost use a little spice to it right right there’s not hot well that
means we need to be like jalapeno or somewhere around there but it’s really
it’s kind of subtle overpower it tastes like it tastes a lot like my cheese
microdata compliments and definitely trying it with that potato was really
good right so can you remember this recipe because I think you can make this
at home for me oh yeah whip this together
nothing to do that guys heard that so he’s gonna cook in the kitchen area keep
this for me at home one day I think we have maybe come the freezer you put in
the microwave that button I can do it two minutes done no right please here I
think opens up at seven o’clock right over the seven ah and we actually got
here what time the render about 9:15 and it was very quiet I’m gonna people at
all and now it’s really busy it’s about ten twenty now money so right
around that 939 o’clock Marcus we start seeing people finish you know coming in
the restaurant and now it’s pretty much bad so we are probably going to enroll
because we have one of the biggest tables in the spot here and this way you
can open it up to other folks that they want to enjoy some of this delicious
food absolutely but first I’m gonna enjoy some of this coffee and I said
they have bottomless cups of coffee here which is great for us and it has a
little bit of cinnamon and earlene is a nice little flavor cinnamon
coffee yeah I didn’t even know that right see what it tastes it means like
wait a second it’s coffee has like up I don’t know interesting I’m like maybe
it’s in that pattern at they did the tango it’s like you know like those over
and he asked and sure enough a little cinnamon you can’t get any kind of
flavors passes that’s right I know my coffee Wow sound like a part of the island
that’s fuckin being so built up for real estate and there’s a lot of these
gorgeous houses for sale have no idea the cost of them at the moment but I’m
sure like this one over here turn the golf course golf cart explore the island
if I shave welcome to the house of deacon chic personal invite back into the kitchen
area so we can check the grill to see exactly how does the kimchi is being
made look at it that’s women wow that’s look at that you know we like
things that are made guys would post okay it’s not photo new at Franklin’s
barbecue we actually saw they made that which was
amazing so you definitely go check that video out if you haven’t seen that as
well we are now in the kitchen you can feel and smell see the amazing it that’s
going on you see the fish right there this is how it’s being prepared who’s
preparing this for me he’s buzzer so you are the chef that made
over 30 peaches during their fault so tell us how we
prepare this this is all the different ingredients that goes onto it so this is
a rub so it’s all dependent on the faux fur but she will just brush your things
okay so that’s like a nice spicy little spicy the barbecue okay
I think of course you go to the oil nito’s package Wow all the fresh
ingredients jalapenos peppers tomatoes well I give him a lot of props it’s very
hot I say so when you rather cook you eating
pull out the pieces tomato on so he just likes his nice tomato slices
he puts it throughout this is amazing what fish does not taste delicious
with some red onion as he kind of layers those in there so I will tell you you need to make sure
one not to wear this type of color here because it does show everything I’m
talking about the glistening sweat the poison hits the whole nine yards their
little muggy yeah the humidity 95% humidity problem
like that’s all from the humidity it’s like you’re in a spa right if you got
deep deep conditioning and well deep conditioning skin yeah we are getting
right into these drinks here I mean this is amazing it’s the maca deep that they
could buy up and pattaya is actually the dragon fruit now I love love love dragon
fruit and I wasn’t sure if Dave was gonna you know like the way that
Superboy we tried these and look I’m almost done at mine they’re really
really good you don’t actually taste the alcohol
yeah you don’t taste oh no you don’t I understand you might feel it after a
while so we just got our grill teen chic and it looks pretty awesome traditional
style wants to be some lime on it I’m on it all right look at that all right so from
what we were told the head is the best part of the fish it has some of the most
richest flavours but also the tail is a great section the size the latter half
of it because it’s a bit crunchy so it’s got a nice crunchy part of the fish so I
think we’re gonna I think I am gonna start with I don’t know I want to start
with the middle not good that’s great I’m other males really nice I’m gonna
put a little bit of this so I’m gonna try it a little bit of the rice now it
seems a little drier than to usual fish but I’m curious to taste it because it
probably has a lot of flavor another really good right Wow wow that is really
really nice I actually like it with the rice it’s just I don’t know there’s
something about it that gave like a really rich complement to it but the
flavors nice it is definitely more of a drier fish but I think the flavor just
really pops with that that special kind of Mayan barbecue sauces are there what
do you think a little habanero sauce on this um I’m gonna give a try because I’m
a green girl can’t handle heat very well so I gotta try this I’m never know that
what’s up tomato too for us this is really really good everything
kind of blends together you’re gonna like to have an error sauce you gotta
fight with that it’s just so good and I love the roasted tomatoes with it
the roasted tomatoes exploding they actually bring gives you the moisture
too I have a tomato with the fish will have
a narrow sauce this is actually a really good dish yeah I would definitely get
this again that’s like yeah Wow so I think you know we’re gonna give
this our our high stars yeah this is good is like brisket Tamas guna brisket
right we’re back at our Airbnb here in Isla
Mujeres and we had a great day today we had a great breakfast great lunch but it
was hot it was humid I think we both lost
probably about a gallon of liquid sure and so we really need to replenish and
so we’re replenishing really the only way we know how
survive I know we promised you guys dinner this evening but lunch was so
massive and it was so humid and it was so good that we just could not I can’t
put another thing in my stomach except low cerveza so besides the fact
that we only have one more day here one more evening here in our Airbnb and the
pool is amazing you haven’t got a chance to really dive into that the views are
spectacular so we are looking forward to that so I think we’re just gonna call it
quits right here and you know what we’ll see you in the morning
hasta manana so right now I am standing on the cliff
of the dawn to call it here and this is the easternmost point of Mexico so it’s
the first part of Mexico that actually gets the sunrays Wow
so this is where we are we’re about to catch the first taste of sun rays or for
anyone else Mexico it is absolutely gorgeous here what was really nice is
coming here and the crowds there weren’t any at all very very funny and we got
here a few mentioned earlier extra early so that we can actually capture some
footage in preparation that if there were a lot of crowds we wouldn’t be able
to do so but it’s just amazing so that could be a good point for you guys if
you’re coming to these little edits or put the hood it’s may be nice to come in
the offseason where it’s not as crazy as busy you might have to deal with the
heat but the views and the peace and resistance is amazing yeah I know the
parts of Sur is really gorgeous too and it’s the frigates fly right overhead
it’d be really cool to clip right up over kind of a cliff right over your
head and just just gliding in the air which is really neat I’m just so happy
that we actually did this and well you have to get up really early because
those golf carts drive super slut oh I know there’s a lot of speed bumps along
the way I think a lot of trails here would be really cool I want to walk the
trails and check them out yeah so that was absolutely amazing
the water is so nice and warm oh it’s just impressive the blue skies the
colors you cannot be this for like what 16 dollars not even if you pay in pesos
unreal that’s great yeah the water so right now we are at fine art a it’s so
bright nearly and there’s not one person out except Dave myself and these
beautiful views here so Playa Norte is actually one of the beaches here in Isla
Mujeres that actually get really busy a lot of tourists come from Cancun
something out for the day here which can be pretty rough you know it’s hard to
find great spots when there’s that many people so you might want to come early
pick your spot you know maybe closest to the water so you can enjoy some of the
views it’s just gorgeous here and they have it looks like there’s a lots of
little huts around the patio that are like places to eat right here on the
beach places to have cocktails and parking it seemed if you’re coming here
for maybe two hours and you have a golf cart parking thing to be two US dollars
and it goes up from there depending on how long you plan on staying start it up war all right so we’re
wrapping up our visit to Isla Mujeres and we’re at one of the best restaurants
on the island called the north garden so we’re very hungry yeah definitely
looking forward to it starving and as promised guys see this is the third spot
David did some research and found out this place had some amazing food and
some really interesting drinks one in particular direction getting this
margarita which is pineapple and Serrano oh the one we had yesterday if it’s
anything like that with a little she’d be perfect and ceviche and the food I
don’t know what we’re gonna order because there’s so much good pepper here
and we’re so hungry but yeah this place is so far it’s
really neat and one thing I will tell you is that they only take cash so there
is no credit card but you can pay in dollars and you can gain pacers
preferably I would suggest paying in pesos because the conversion rates a
little bit different but uh hey little s welcome to the north garden it’s good
I do really refreshing mmm okay so I got the skirt steak with
basically has pepper and onion you know room is really really nice it’s really
bright it looks really good smells great and it’s wrapped in a flour tortilla but
that tortilla is actually crispy with like a cheese spread on or something
it’s really really pretty I’m looking forward to jumping into this mmm that’s
really good let me have nice blenders you know a
steak with a pepper and onions I love the spicy sauce spicy habanero sauce
it’s not too hot but I have a great flavor
it’s a really good mmm any more of this it’s really good so I got which is the
shrimp north garden it’s got that nice poblano pepper a little bit I guess
also the flour tortilla and it’s an open kind of an open tox on that you don’t
mind getting your hands oh I’m a messy you can keep it up like you traditional
way of doing it dirty hands Donna that is really she’s really
well-prepared this shrimp oh my goodness it’s very messy and country we talk but
the flavor is unbelievable Delano pepper there’s a little bit of spice you almost
can’t taste the nail once in there but you know that it’s there because of that
flavor something that does to it the flour the tortillas really soft we’re
almost like a roller excuse me marina style but it has a
really nice consistency flavor of the shrimp is definitely well done and I
just think it’s really delicious it looks good bienvenidos of lemon I think hey so that about does it for us we had
a wonderful time over at Isla Mujeres gosh to finish it up with that wonderful
tasty dish where I’m exhausted I’m sure you’re exhausted oh I’m ready for now
and we have yeah I think that’s about right because we are now back on the
Cancun side to really dive into our all-inclusive which we will take you
guys on that adventure all right that’s enough I’m Tanya thank you so much for
